Specialty and Code: Geology 070901

Education Objective: This program trains advanced professionals in geology who have great potentials to do research in their future career. Our students should not only have a solid foundation in geology, but also have completed developments in moral, intellectual and physical excellence. Furthermore, they master mathematics, physics and foreign languages, with ability of innovation and team working. More than 80% of our graduates will continue their study for a master's degree or a doctor's degree. After four years' study, the students will have the ability to pursue a position of teaching and/or doing research of geosciences in universities or institutions. They can be engaged in related work such as resource searching, environment surveying, geo-disaster prevention, national land planning and so on.

Graduation Requirements:

1. A solid foundation in science: students should master fundamental knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, be capable of logical thinking;

2. Professional foundation: master the fundamental theories in earth and environmental sciences; should be able to identify common geological phenomenon and master geological field skills; know how to use analytical instruments, and analyze data; have the potential to be engaged in the research work of structural geology, rocks and minerals, and stratigraphy and paleontology.

3. Research ability: understand the frontier of the discipline, with comprehensive analytical ability; grasp common analytical techniques and can apply these methods to solve scientific questions in structural geology, mineralogy, petrology, stratigraphy and paleontology, and planetary science.

4. Scientific literacy: have the spirit of hardship and preciseness, have a broad international vision and strong ability of comprehensive analysis; have the ability of team work and organization and management.

5. Proficiency in intercultural communication:master a foreign language with proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing; understand the international frontiers of earth sciences; have a global perspective and strong international communication skills.

6. Independent learning ability and sense of innovation: can actively carry out independent learning according to their own development and social needs, with a sense of life-time learning; be aware of the research frontier of the discipline and national goals; have a strong sense of innovation.
